To what beat is Port-au-Prince dancing?

The music landscape in Haiti is constantly evolving.  In the last three decades, new musical genres have emerged and have challenged the dominance of mainstream Konpa music for the hearts and wallets of the Haitian public.  A crop of new artists is pushing the boundaries of alternative genres and has reached levels of popularity once only reserved for Konpa artists.  Many traditionalists, who see Konpa music as part of Haiti’s very identity, are concerned that the genre may disappear within half a generation.  In its December 2018 Survey, Safitek Research took the pulse of Port-au-Prince area residents to assess their musical preferences.  The slide deck below summarizes our findings.
